HOT STONE THERAPY

GIVE ME THE RUNDOWN
WHAT IS HOT STONE THERAPY?
Hot stone therapy is a massage using heated (usually to 122–127 °F/50.0–52.8 °C) stones and it's roots can be traced back to over 2,000 years ago.. The stones are smooth, flat and made of a volcanic rock called basalt. They are specifically chosen because they retain heat.
The Hot Stones are then used instead of the therapists hands to massage with. This allows them to use the heat to get deeper into the muscles without applying further pressure, helping you maximize the health benefits of a deep massage, without compromising on relaxation.
HOW IS IT PERFORMED?
During a hot stone massage, the same techniques of a regular massage are employed; Long sweeping strokes etc, but the therapists uses the Hot Stones as an extension of their hands. As one stone cools, the therapist replaces it with another. The therapists may lay the stones on a particular part of your body to heat it directly to prepare it for further work, or alternate between the stones and their hands should the therapist need to pinpoint a particular area.
Whilst the stones are hot they should never cause discomfort and the pressure will vary from medium to firm (dependent on movement and taste) but NEVER painful.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
As a hot stone massage employs very similar techniques to a regular massage, it carries the same benefits; decreasing harmful toxins, lowering stress levels, Increasing oxygen levels etc.
However, because the stones are hot, the heat transfers from the stones to your body. Heat has long been used to ease muscle tension and pain and so this creates a deep healing sensation (almost akin to a deep tissue massage) and means the benefits of a regular massage are enhanced without the need for added pressure
IS IT FOR ME?
Hot Stone Therapy requires longer prep time than a traditional Swedish Massage but for those that want to maximize their treatment time, it's perfect.
Great for customers with physically demanding jobs, Gym go-ers or Athletes but generally any customer that wants the added benefits than just relaxation alone (although it is great for that).
WHAT TO EXPECT?
BEFORE THE TREATMENT?
We value your time, and we want your treatment to go as smoothly as possible on the day, so we require a few things from you before we arrive:
Establish clear and easy access to your property - Our therapists must protect their own safety first. They could be bringing some heavy massage equipment to your location and should gaining access to your chosen property be deemed unsafe (such as an icy pathway, or stairs for example) they could refuse to start the treatment.
Fill in our consultation form (sent in the email confirmation) and send it back - A consultation is mandatory before any treatment can commence. By completing the form in advance we can make sure your treatment is true to its length, otherwise we have do it on the day, which will impact your treatment time.
Make sure there is enough space - therapists will need adequate room for all of their equipment and to work, that means moving all items that could impede the therapists ability to navigate around you. The therapists can refuse to complete the treatment should the area be deemed unsafe.
Be considerate of your environment - Whilst we really value your time and custom, we value our therapists health just as much; Spraying air freshener may seem like a good idea to you, but not to a therapist with Asthma; Refrain from smoking for an hour prior to your treatment (and during); Be mindful of extremes of hot and cold etc.
Pets must be secured away before the therapists arrive - This is not only to protect our therapists but also our other customers, as we are a mobile service, we could be moving from your home, to a home where a customer has an allergy to your pet.
On the day, your therapists will usually arrive 20-30 minutes before your treatment slot, this is the preparation time. Once they arrive the therapists will begin setting up all the equipment needed; Beds, Towels, Hot Stones heater etc.
Because this treatment requires you to have heated stones throughout the treatment you will be required to provide access to a standard electrical outlet for the duration of the treatment so that we can maintain.
Providing you sent back the Consultation Form, you will be asked a few simple questions to confirm the information you have given is accurate, or to address any concerns. At this point the therapists will ask you if there are any specific goals you would like to achieve (deep, relaxing etc) so they can tailor the massage to your needs.
You will then be asked to remove your clothes (Except for your underwear) and lie on the table in the position instructed by your therapist (usually on your front with Hot Stones).
And then just take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy...you earned it ;).
After your treatment, and once your re-clothed, your therapists will most likely recommend you drink a glass of tepid water. Our therapists will then begin packing their equipment away. Whilst we do that, and depending if it's possible based on the location you've chosen (work/home etc), we'd also recommend you take a few moments just to sit and be centred with calming thoughts, before life resumes itself.
The therapists shouldn't take long packing away and once the therapists have finished packing all their equipment, you are free to resume your day.
Although a Hot Stone massage is a deeper massage, it shouldn't cause any discomfort, but depending on the pressure you have requested, it is possible you could have a slight ache the next day - a warm bath, plenty of water and rest, should remedy it.
